• Anger In Relationships

Are you dealing with anger in a relationship? Does anger impact on your life? Do you get angry? Or does someone close to you upset you with their anger? Do you recognise that anger is damaging your relationships with family, friends, colleagues and yourself?

How can the Anger In Relationships Counselling Session help?

Helen Mia Harris, experienced Couple’s Therapist, Marriage Counsellor, Relationship Therapist and Couple’s Coach has, for over 26 years, been helping clients understand and deal with some of the underlying issues around anger in relationships. Helen Mia helps couples or individuals express their emotions and needs in a safe space and can guide you through the process of healing the unconscious triggers that provoke anger.

Helen Mia’s successful counselling sessions offers a range of practical and proven techniques for understanding emotions, dealing with angry feelings constructively and letting go. You’ll see how to deal with anger before it happens; thwart an angry outburst; and adopt a new healthier and calmer perspective.

Anger can be expressed in three ways:

    • Towards others: yelling and screaming at people including family members, colleagues or strangers.
    • Towards the environment: at objects, things that we can kick, punch or smash to pieces. This kind of behaviour is destructive anger and it fails to solve any problems.
    • Internalising anger: whereby it presents itself as a “fuming silence”, forcing others around you to walk on eggshells, fearing the possible eruption. This is most difficult in close relationships as it is aimed at the one who has “triggered” the angry emotion in the first place.

Without being able to express the reason for our anger, we may use other strategies to get back at people, e.g. passive aggressive behaviour or being sarcastic, critical or hostile. Anger is a way of hiding our pain and often it is a way of behaving that disguises the fact that we are feeling vulnerable and afraid. If we don’t react to a person/situation angrily then we may not get what we want. What we really want is to have our needs met, to be heard and appreciated.

Helen Mia’s Anger Counselling Session will help individuals or couples learn to manage anger and use it constructively to solve problems with positive solutions.
